A TRIP TO LABUAN - PART 1

Hi, there I am back again. In this article, I would like to share with you all our great  experiences while visiting Labuan, Malaysia on last April 2011. This was a family holiday. We have planned to go to Kota Kinabalu by land since last October 2010 and managed to fulfill our plan when one of our family member getting married with a Sabahan on the same month.
A journey took 19 hours from Kuching to Kota Kinabalu passing through Brunei. We went to Labuan on the way back from KK to Kuching. Spent 2 nights in Labuan to pay a visit to few attractive tourism venues which I wanna share with you. Due to shorter time period , we need to plan carefully by prioritising which places need to go first.

Our first destination is Taman Burung Labuan (Labuan Birds Park).

This one of interesting place in Labuan. Hundreds type of birds shown here with some of them were freely flying and moving within the park. The most significant bird was Ostrich (Burung Unta). Almost all the bird parks had this birds. Named as the biggest bird in the world, ostrich are one of main attraction in this park.
There were also had two big cages which looked like a cage in the Jurassic Park movie. In this cage, birds of few species were kept together and move freely while the visitors can walk inside it and make a close encounter with those birds. The best bird that we could never forgotten is Burung Tiong, a species that can replicate human voice. There were 2 Tiongs that were fluently spoken. Some of the words that they can say were "Assalamualaikum, sudah makan?', "Selamat pagi", " Halo" etc.

We spent almost two hours in this parks. Surprisingly even this park considered as one of the good places to hang around with family (as the restaurant and children playground was also provided), not many people were tempted to come over. During our visit, we were the only visitor coming to the place. With the ticket price relatively cheap, which was only RM2 per person, but due to small population and less visitors coming to Labuan hindered such place from being visited for more than once. Unless you are outsiders, those park remains a haunted place to all Labuanites if nobody really appreciate it existences.

Sometimes the grass is greener on the other side...takes outsiders to appreciate the existence of a place while locals could not be bothered...happens everywhere, not just labuan...
